Leela is a super special kitty that was rescued from the western part of Riviera Beach by a very kind police sargeant.  She has the most unbelievable georgeous coat ever! She is an awsome orange bangel with white accents. She loves laser pointer which is one of her favorite toys. She also enjoys the "One Fast Cat" cat wheel at her foster home. She will get on it and run as fast as a hamster on it's wheel. Leela loves playing in the sheets. Leela is also very affectionate. Not a movement goes unnoticed by her sharp one eye. Leela is has shown to be a spunky girl who enjoys romping and playing with her brother Lee.  They are to be adopted together.  She loves sleeping with her foster mom and the other cats in the house.

Leela's Story:
Leela was found with her eyes crusted over which made it impossible for her to see. She surely would have died if she had not been rescued. Once her face and eyes were cleaned up it was obvious that she had very serious eye problems. Leela was wisked off to Dr. Broadwater, an eye specialist in West Palm Beach. She was diagnosed with congenital agenisis of the eyelid which basically means that the eyelid never developed during embryonic growth. This lack of growth resulted in her eyelids turning inward and her eyelashes to grow inside her eye area. The constant irritation of the eye corneas from the growing eyelashes resulted in abrasions and perforations of her corneas. Both of Leela's eyes were severely damaged. Dr. Broadwater determined that Leela needed to have both of her eyes removed. Then on surgery day, Dr. Broadwater re-examined Leela and it was discovered that she had some vision in her right eye. So, the left eye, being unsalvageable, was removed and a corneal transplant was preformed on the right eye! Leela's eye recovery period was about two months.
Today Leela has been given a clean bill of health and appeares to have "better than expected" vision.

Leela's vision is a result of the generosity of many people who care about animals. All the donors are greatly appreciated by the A.R.F. volunteers who give their time to saving animals.

Leela's adoption fee is $100.00. She has tested negative for FeLV/FIV and heartworm. She has received three FVRCCP vaccinations, rabies vaccine, deworming spayed, micro-chipped and Revolution or other flea control.

If you are interested in meeting Leela and possibly giving her a forever home, please fill out an on-line adoption application and an adoption counselor will contact you.
